Blaze Orange – Not Just for Hunters

Updated: Mar 10, 2021

Fall is here! The air outside has that nice low humidity crisp feel to it and the leaves are changing color. Another way we can tell fall is here at the office is by the increase in folks calling, emailing, and stopping by the office looking to buy land. These potential buyers have been holed up for the summer months in the air conditioning looking at properties on the internet. They are now ready to hit the woods and farms.

There is another group of folks who have just as eagerly awaited the coming of fall, Hunters. Here in northwestern North Carolina deer season has already started and it runs through January 1st. Most small game seasons are also now open and many run through the end of February. Hunters know the need for wearing blaze orange during hunting season and have the appropriate clothing. I suspect that the vast majority of folks looking to buy land do not.

In North Carolina, hunters are required to wear a cap, hat or an outer garment in blaze orange that is visible from all sides when hunting during muzzleloader or firearm season. There is no such requirement for land lookers, but we highly suggest they put blaze orange on as well.

Another consideration in planning your property visits is to call ahead. Most of the tracts of land we have listed for sale are leased for hunting and we need to notify the hunt club before letting folks roam around on the property.

Play it safe this fall and wear plenty of blaze orange and call ahead before exploring any properties.
