Micah's Gift

December 24, 2018

This Christmas tree is obviously not your typical North Carolina Frazier fir, but it does remind me of all the greenery you see at Christmas:  trees, wreaths, and roping. This tree started as a log in our firewood pile behind the office. Lisa insisted on saving the log for a project she had in mind. Daniel Wiles, owner of Yadkin Valley Surveying, sawed the log into lumber on his antique Meadows Mill sawmill this summer. That lumber is now packed on sticks in our shop air drying. Unknown to Lisa or me, Micah Sidden, owner of Precision Land Surveying, kept part of a board that was mostly rotten and crafted this Christmas Tree out of it. So you might say this Christmas Tree has been resurrected.

The scripture from the Gospel of Luke, Chapter 2 is what I normally think of when Christmas time rolls around. I’ve had different scripture in mind this year as I have been thinking about Micah’s gift. In ancient times the evergreen fir was a sign of everlasting life with God. As you celebrate God’s gift to us this Christmas please take a moment to consider the meaning of the gift.

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Merry Christmas Everyone!
