Forest Health
There are a vast number of diseases, insects, and invasive plants that threaten our forests today; chestnut blight, gypsy moth, southern pine beetle, and kudzu are just a few. The threat might seem daunting but there are steps that can be taken to protect your forest. The first is to have a forester prepare a management plan for your property which should identify any forest health issues on the property. This will provide you with goals and the means to achieve them. The next step is to keep your forest healthy. Most diseases and insects prey upon slow-growing, old, or overcrowded forest stands. By keeping your forest growing quickly and not allowing it to become overcrowded it won’t be an appealing place for forest pests. We urge you to make at least an annual inspection of your forestland and keep an eye out for forest health problems. If you don’t have the time or ability to make an annual inspection please call and we will take care of it.
